Students and Staff at the 2010 Summer Workshop
The 2010 summer workshop at Le Payrare (near Toulouse) in southern France was a hectic week of playing and study by day with wonderfully social dinners (and playing) by night.
The students
were from all walks of life, French, British and one American who had made the trip all the way from California. Within a day the common interest in John Renbourn's music had gelled the group into a single unit of firm friends and there was much swapping of stories, tips, guitar tabs and techniques to add to the more structured tuition from John and Remy.
Note the guitar John is holding in the photograph - it's the Gibson J50 from the 'Another Monday' album cover! John has been recently reunited with this beautiful guitar and pretty much all the students wanted their photo taken playing it.
Here it is pictured beside the original vinyl album sleeve. >>
The recording workshops were popular and in the end everyone had recorded a track or two (including the tutors). Mike beavered away editing and mastering the results and we had a 15 track CD by the end of the week!
Overall, everyone left with a huge boost to their playing and lots of new musical directions to explore.
Some quotes from the students

'In the company of fellow guitar enthusiasts I had an amazing time at this unique and unforgettable master class of fingerstyle acoustic guitar techniques and tips - plus it was in the beautiful rural ambience of the South of France!!'
'Superb workshop! John, Remy and Mike are a wonderful team and have assembled a comprehensive approach to the guitar music of John Renbourn. I returned home motivated and with a lot to work on. Fantastic french food too!'
